Welcome to Pre-School

Children are excited to start in Pre-School as they look forward to their next steps into the junior world.

Such is its popularity, Old Palace Nursery opened a new Pre-school room in September 2011. To apply for a place, please click on the link below.

Application form

Children start in Pre-School in the September before they are due to start Reception and spend a year with us.

They continue to learn through play whilst some parts of the day are more formal so as to prepare the children for school.

Facilities
The Pre-School class has the use of three spacious rooms:
• Play Room
• ICT Room
• Messy Room

Meals
Breakfast, Lunch and Tea are eaten in the dining hall.

Curriculum
The curriculum followed in Pre-School is in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Each day there are a number of pre-planned ‘focused activities’ that either reflects the children’s current interests, the current topic or time of year.

Phonics
We teach phases 1 and 2 of Letters and Sounds, using the Jolly Phonics materials.

Themes
This year we will be looking at 6 topics each of which has been chosen to help develop the children’s knowledge and understanding of the world. These include:
All about me
Animals
Space
Senses
Growing
All around the world

Tracking progress
All staff observe the children on a daily basis through written observations and photographs.

These are put together into an Early Years Foundation Stage Profile which is kept in the classroom and available for parents to read at any time. This record of their progress then goes with them to their Reception class.

Each half term you will receive a Personalised Learning Plan (PLP) for your child. This will contain two next steps. One of these is likely to be related to the theme or topic the class are working on. Each key worker will also plan individual activities based on their observations of your child.

We continue to build on our partnership with information about the day’s activities. We welcome your feedback through the contact book or face to face.
