Year 10 and 11
At GCSE, the curriculum allows for students to follow up to 10 GCSEs; with subjects such as Classical Civilisation, PE and Business Studies offered in addition to the subjects already offered in Year 9. In addition, GCSE Astronomy and GCSE Classical Greek are offered as twilight courses for our most able scientists and classicists, where possible.
Where beneficial to the individual a student may opt to study fewer subjects. The core subjects are Science, Mathematics and English Language and Literature with other subjects available as option choices. The three separate sciences are offered as IGCSE courses and IGCSE Coordinated Science is also an option which allows more choice for individuals. Students are expected to study either Coordinated Science or all three sciences. Students are encouraged to maintain a breadth of study and are advised to study at least one subject from each of Humanities, The Creative and Performing Arts, MFL and Technologies.
Sports Leadership and the Arts Award in dance are also options for students in Year 10 and 11. In addition Year 10 students may embark upon the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. Year 11 students can opt to achieve their Silver and the sixth formers their Gold DofE award.
