Careers and Higher Education

Our Sixth Form students are individually supported as they make crucial decisions relating to their future education and employment.

Each student has timetabled Careers lessons with the School’s Head of Futures and Progression. In addition, students benefit from a wide range of activities including:

  • Higher Education and Post 18 Information Evening
  • Careers and Higher Education Fair
  • Higher Education information evenings (covering topics including Oxbridge and Medicine)
  • Choosing a university/course workshop
  • UCAS application mentoring and Personal Statement guidance with specialist support
  • University mock interviews with degree and career specific specialists
  • Degree subject specific mentoring with specialist staff
  • Talks from Career Professionals and current university students
  • University admission tests (UCAT, HAT, LNAT, CAT etc.) preparation classes
  • STEP Mathematics preparation classes
  • Preparation lessons in applying for Law, Engineering and Medicine
  • Campus University visit with interactive workshops
  • Presentations on Degree Apprenticeships, Gap Year options and overseas universities

Oxbridge and Medical School Preparation

Particular attention is given to the additional requirements of the top universities including Oxbridge and medical school preparation, admission tests, interviews and essay submissions.

Old Palace has a wealth of experience and success in supporting Oxbridge applications. Students are offered a tailored package of support that can include: 

  • subject specific mentoring
  • personalised extension work
  • reading lists
  • visits to Oxbridge open days
  • support in entering relevant essay competitions

Congratulations to Sophia, who is studying English & French at Oxford University and to our Joint Head Girls, Suraiya and Alison, who are studying Maths at Warwick and Geography at UCL.

Half of students secured places at Russell Group universities.

70% of students achieved their first/second choice of university. Most popular destinations include: City, University of London (4): St. George’s (4): UCL (4): King’s College London (3).
