Birdspotting at Prep’s Be Wild Club

Our intrepid Be Wild Club members braved some very chilly temperatures after school last week to learn about the birds that they see on our school playing field.

With the RSPB launching its big Garden Birdwatch this coming weekend, Be Wild club started preparations by making some pine cone birdfeeders to attract birds to the school grounds. The girls also enjoyed looking at the RSPB flash cards which helped them name some of the more common varieties. The birds we see in our gardens, from our balconies and in our parks, are facing many challenges due to the nature and climate emergency. Taking part in the survey plays an important role in helping us understand how our much-loved UK birds are doing

The Big Garden Birdwatch is fun, free and for everyone and you don’t need a garden to take part! Sign up today to get your free guide and we can look for birds together on 27-29 January. Sign up on the RSPB website: https://www.rspb.org.uk/

The girls also enjoyed a warming hot chocolate around the camp fire. Delicious!
