Year 13 French students attend BFI Conference

In Year 13 French, we were extremely fortunate to attend a fabulous conference on La Nouvelle Vague and its continued influence on films nowadays.

Conducted in French, the morning session’s clip-based presentation various themes following the prescribed film texts of the new A-Level specifications, which deal with present social issues while acknowledging the past. Truffaut’s films, Les 400 Coups (1959) and Jules et Jim as well as Agnès Varda’s less well-known, Cleo de 5 à 7 (1962), were compared to contemporary films which present current social issues of class and ethnic divisions like Nakache & Toledano’s Intouchables (2011), Kassovitz’s La Haine (1995) and Cantet’s Entre les Murs (2008). What a successful day!
