Last month, Sophia in Year 13 took part in the ‘Joûtes Oratoires Lycéennes’ French debating competition. She worked with a Year 13 student from Whitgift, and together they debated against other schools including:
- Alleyn’s
- Epsom College
- Sutton Grammar
- Trinity
- Christ’s Hospital School
To prepare for the debates, they researched three motions: ‘The market of art has corrupted the work of art’, ‘It is necessary to disarm the French police’ and ‘Maths should be compulsory at A-level’. During the debates they worked collaboratively to respond spontaneously and passionately to the other teams’ arguments.
Congratulations to Sophia as her team won the Regional Finals and have therefore progressed to the National finals.
